My Creative Writing Workshops

Author talks and creative writing workshops for schools deliver real results for students. The talks deliver real life lessons, based on a life that I'm grateful to say has had its fair share of adventure and danger. While the writing workshops deliver practical principles and techniques students can use and adapt from that day on.

Who are the author talks aimed at?

Primarily years 7 to 9 (KS3) but also can include KS4.

What is the focus?

The emphasis is on encouraging students, particularly boys, to read and write and communicate at an age when these skills can falter.

What are the aims?

What does the Creating Writing Workshop cover?

These can be tailored to specific requests, but the backbone is a primer in how the professionals write – whether for social media, websites or newspapers. The emphasis though is on imagination and creating fiction.

This is an interactive workshop which can go in many different directions depending on the imagination and ideas of the students. We talk about plotlines and then create characters that can move those plotlines forward and develop themselves.

If you want to see my fiction books, I will be launching a new website very soon.

What Others Say

‘Graham came to our school and did 2 talks and a workshop. The talks were fascinating, and gripped some of our more high-need students. To the point I was unaware one of our most challenging students was in the talk because he was so engaged with Graham’s talk about his life experiences!

‘The workshop was really good and I have had a few students come to tell me they have used what Graham talked about for character development in their own stories.

‘All of Graham's books are currently out on loan to our students which I think speaks volumes about how much they enjoyed his time at our school.’

‘The boys were full of praise and loved hearing about your adventures and working in forests.  I think it was great the way you encouraged them to be adventurous, to travel and try different things. I know that those students hoping to be writers were inspired and are more keen than ever to try their hand at it. I have only had positive feedback - students reading Banished to the Forest love it and are waiting avidly for the next instalment.’
